Why Prepping Matters and the Role of Faith in Readiness
When I first started prepping, it wasn’t just about stocking up on supplies or preparing for worst-case scenarios. For me, it was about stewardship, responsibility, and faith. We live in a world where unexpected challenges can arise at any moment—natural disasters, economic instability, or civil unrest. Being prepared is not about fear; it’s about being wise and proactive.
The Bible teaches us in Proverbs 22:3, “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.” That verse resonates deeply with me and underscores why I believe preparedness is not just practical—it’s biblical. God gives us wisdom to see what’s coming, and it’s our responsibility to act accordingly.
When it comes to prepping, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information out there. But here’s the truth: sensible prepping is about keeping it simple and focusing on the basics. The “Rule of 3’s” is a great way to prioritize:
- You can survive 3 minutes without air,
- 3 hours without shelter in extreme weather,
- 3 days without water, and
- 3 weeks without food.
That’s why the foundation of prepping is ensuring you have food, water, shelter, and a way to protect yourself. If you don’t start with these basics, all the gadgets and extras won’t matter. You don’t have to cover every possible scenario. Instead, focus on what’s most likely and build from there.
- Food: Store enough non-perishable items to feed your family for at least a few weeks, then build up from there. Think simple, calorie-dense foods that don’t require refrigeration.
- Water: Have a way to store and purify water. Without clean water, survival becomes a struggle fast.
- Shelter: Whether it’s your home or a bug-out location, your shelter should protect you from the elements and keep you secure.
- Protection: Having the means to defend yourself and your loved ones is non-negotiable. But remember, preparation is also about building relationships and finding strength in community.
Prepping isn’t just about storing stuff; it’s about learning skills, staying physically and mentally fit, and maintaining a balanced, level-headed approach. And through it all, faith plays a central role. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you look at the state of the world, but trusting in God provides peace. Faith reminds us that while we do our part to prepare, the ultimate plan is in His hands.
If you’re new to prepping or feeling like you don’t know where to start, my advice is this: Begin with prayer. Ask God for guidance on how to prepare wisely and for the strength to face whatever may come. Then, take action—start small, focus on the basics, and build a strong foundation.
Remember, prepping is not about hoarding or living in fear; it’s about using the resources God has blessed us with to provide for ourselves and others in times of crisis. Together, with God’s guidance, we can face any storm that comes our way.
Stay prepared, stay safe, and stay faithful.
Be strong. Be of Good Courage. God bless America. Long live the Republic.
